Willie & Mary Corduff have a farm at the eastern end of the Rossport Peninsula. The farm was reclaimed out of the bog by Willie’s father and Willie, in turn, wants to pass the farm onto his son. When Willie went to jail for 94 days in 2005 for refusing to allow Shell enter his land to lay a high pressure, raw gas pipeline, it was Mary who kept the farm and family going. Their lives have been turned upside down by the project, having to put enormous amounts of their time into the campaign, while still trying to run a farm and maintain a semblance of family life.

Monica Muller from the Rhur valley in Germany came to Rossport over 25 years ago, and, after falling in love with place, decided to stay. She was one of the first residents in the area to raise concerns about the pipeline and refinery. A clever and effeminate woman, she fell out with her neighbours for not taking much part in the protests but instead followed a strictly legal path through the courts. After 3 years of feeling isolated due to her stance, her case against Shell may be the last obstacle against Shell’s pipeline through Rossport.

Pat ‘The Chief’ O‘Donnell is a local fisherman who is deeply concerned for the future of his crab and lobster family business, which he has built up over the years, and which supports many local other families in the fishing industry. Pat and his son have refused all compensation offers from Shell and have been repeatedly arrested, brought to court and jailed for refusing to step aside and allow the development to go ahead. Having been central to a sea rescue many years ago in which he put himself and his son in peril to save the lives of a local family and Garda divers, he is now serving 7 months in jail for public order offenses relating to those same Gardai.
